I often get the question, where do you start? Well here it is, the start of another carved fine art painting. The vessel (canvas if you like) freshly turned by hand on a wood lathe. The journey begins. I now turn my thoughts to a whole new set of challenges of flamingo wading in water, ripples, reflections, positive and negatives spaces in the ripples and the colour interactions throughout. The set of challenges are similar to my fine art painting yet far more challenging. All of this on 1 to 2 mm thick timber which represents the fragility yet incredible structure of the natural world in my work. The line between success and failure is a fine one throughout my work. This requires a certain mind set and an ability to cope with hours of intense concentration. Not for everyone I’m sure.
