Some steady progress this week, refining and modelling the image. I enjoy this stage even though it can be challenging to work through, the messy stage if you like, sorting out what stays and what goes after getting the initial idea onto the canvas. The excitement builds as the painting takes on its own life, pulling you away from the reference images and anatomy books to create something more dramatic and more beautiful. I love the freedom of painting. It is up to me to create the image how I want it to be. That feeling where words fail, to communicate the beauty I have seen and felt in the bush in Africa. To share so that others may enjoy and appreciate. Thank you for sharing with me. At this stage of the painting you can see most of the underpainting stage, I am still resisting too much detail.
