Dappled Respite

The midday heat in Africa. The welcoming and sparse dappled shade are one of life’s essentials in the wild. Here, guinea fowl rest, seeking respite from the heat. The warmth of the iron oxides inspired directly form the land of Africa, visually communicating the hot dry wild environs. The entanglement of branches as if writhing in the agonising heat provide shelter for the bejewelled guinea fowl. A study of highlight and shadow, of dapple and dot and the beauty of cobalt teal, ultramarine blue and cadmium red. The Helmeted Guinea Fowl wear these colours with elegance.

Oil on mounted Belgian Linen 90 x 57 cm  35.4 inches x 22.4 inches.
