Some of the lofty branches of the baobab are starting to take shape. Methodically working down from the top left, not worried about too much detail at this stage, the main thing being to get the tonal range right and colour closer. The interplay of shadows on the branches are an interesting challenge.

The palette of colours I am using in the baobab tree. I love the warmth in African light.

Some more progress today. I’m enjoying the tree as it emerges from the canvas with all the textures and shadows of branches on the highlights. Although not finished I am reminded of World Elephant day as I paint this painting of two icons of the African bush. Elephant are being poached at an unsustainable rate. Nothing beats seeing ivory where it should be on an elephant in the wild.
