A metaphor for life. This painting is inspired from my walks along our local beaches here in New Zealand. The pristine beauty of the natural environs are breathtakingly beautiful. The iron oxide coloured sandstone cliffs baked into a myriad of colours by ancient volcanic processes lending themselves to inspire an appropriately colourful artists palette. The fortuitous jewel here, a young fledgling kingfisher (Sacred kingfisher Todiramphus sanctus) facing the challenging and varied set of decisions in life represented by the Pohutukawa tree roots. Our decisions weave the fabric of our survival much like the tree roots holding the sandstone cliff together, beautifully illustrated here by the natural world if we pause and observe for an etherial moment. The volcanic upheaval, the growth of trees and the alighting of a young bird on a branch to create such a beautiful moment, the in depth appreciation of the processes to create this beauty are not lost on me.
This is my rendition for the viewer.
